  • Parents & Carers Questionnaire - Proposed Return to School in June

    Tue 12 May 2020

Following on from my letter to parents and carers yesterday, we have created a short questionnaire based on the planned phased return to school for Key/Critical Worker, Reception, Year 1 and 6 pupils. (LINK BELOW)

I would encourage ALL families to complete this by Monday 18th May, as the more information we can generate, the more effective our planned provision will be.

We are currently working through the detailed guidance and information from the DfE that was released last night and will release further details of how this will work at Oakham next week.

The proposed return to school remains subject to government advice and may change due to the National Covid-19 Transition Rate.

Thank you for your support and co-operation,

  • Keeping Children Safe from Radicalisation Online - Advice for Parents & Carers

    Wed 06 May 2020

We would like to highlight a  guidance document from 'Let’s Talk About It' (LTAI) with public advice for staying safe online and in supporting Parents and Carers with information about the risks of Online Radicalisation during COVID-19.

The closure of schools means that opportunities for children to talk to and play with friends will be limited to online interaction. This will almost certainly lead to children spending more time online. Parents working from home may not be able to monitor their children’s use of devices as they usually would.

Unfortunately, whilst rare, there are negative influencers and online groomers who use the internet, social media and online gaming to spread their extreme ideas, which children can be exposed to.

Some of these ideas may be considered radical or extreme and when a person starts to support or be involved in them, this is called radicalisation.

Many thanks to Mrs Brown and the families in Class 3 who have created this amazing video. We were so impressed with the children's efforts and lovely messages that we've got permission from all involved to be able to share it with you all.

It certainly lifted spirits here at school so hopefully it will do the same for you too - click below to enjoy it!

  • NSPCC & Childline Information for Families

    Wed 06 May 2020

Home isn’t always a safe place. Schools closing could put some children at greater risk of abuse and neglect and that’s why we’re supporting the NSPCC.

If you’re worried about a child or young person, or if you notice that something just doesn’t seem right, the @NSPCC is here.

You can talk to their helpline team who offer free support and guidance on 0808 800 5000 (8am-10pm Mon-Fri / 9am-6pm weekends) or you can email help@nspcc.org.uk 24/7.
