  • A trip down memory lane...

    Thu 26 May 2022

Many thanks go to Mrs Timbrell (then Miss Johnson), one of our lunch time team and Oakham ex-pupils, for bringing in her personal momentos from the Queen's Coronation in 1953.

These have been made available for our children to view and ask her about the celebrations in her time at school.

Little did she know, that 70 years later she'd be part of our Platinum Jubilee celebrations at Oakham!

  • Thursday 26th May - Royal Platinum Jubilee Day at Oakham Primary

    Fri 20 May 2022

We will be celebrating the Royal Jubilee on Thursday 26th May. All children are being asked to wear RED,WHITE & BLUE clothing for the day instead of school uniform. Children can also come to school with painted faces or coloured hair.

All of the children will be eating their lunch in the specially decorated school hall and dining room. If we are lucky with the weather, children also have the option of eating outdoors if they so wish. (Nursery children have other arrangements, as detailed in their own letter).

A special Royal Jubilee lunch is available through our catering partner, SIPS, which should be booked via your ParentPay accounts. Children also have the option of bringing in a packed lunch as usual.

During the afternoon session, children will be participating in some fun, Royal Jubilee themed activities - please look out for updates via our school Twitter account.

Over the next week, we will also be distributing the complimentary Royal Jubilee books from the DfE to every child in school.

We look forward to a memorable and fun end to this half-term; marking an historic event in British History!

  • Platinum Jubilee Royal Portrait Challenge

    Fri 20 May 2022

As part of our Platinum Jubilee celebrations in school, I am challenging children to use some time at home over the Whitsun holidays to create a piece of art portraying our Queen, Elizabeth II, to celebrate her seventy years of dedicated service to our country.

I will be sharing this news with the children later today in our 'Friday Celebration Assembly. ' Please CLICK HERE to read the letter or use today's app message sent out for full details.

We intend to host an exhibition of all of the children's work early next half-term for everyone to enjoy. I look forward to viewing  lots of amazing and creative pieces of artwork!

  • 100% Attendance certificates for Spring Term 2022

    Thu 19 May 2022

A massive well done to the 119 children who received a certificate this week for their 100% attendance during Spring Term. It is a tremendous achievement and I don't think we have ever presented so many rewards.

A photograph below of some of the delighted children in KS2 with their certificates.

As Mr Skett says in assembly, "Keep it up!" There will be more certificates for Summer term and an extra award for 100% attendance for the school year.

    Every day counts

  • All children to receive a complimentary Platinum Royal Jubilee book next week!

    Tue 17 May 2022

Children in  primary schools across the United Kingdom will receive a free commemorative book to mark Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.

The book was commissioned by the UK Government and is being published by DK Books. It has been designed for a reading age of nine to 10 years, but will be accessible to all primary school age children, for example if parents or carers read with them.

Designed as an official once-in-a-lifetime commemoration of the Platinum Jubilee and written in collaboration with royal experts and historians, the book will tell the story of a young girl, Isabella, visiting her Great Granny Joyce who tells her about the Queen and this year’s Jubilee.

We will distribute these later next week as part of our in-school Platinum Jubilee celebrations - further details to be released shortly.

  • Guide Dogs for the Blind

    Fri 13 May 2022

    Democracy in action

In assemblies and in the classroom we have been learning all about British values and we were very happy today to put the first one, 'Democracy' into action.

Children in class 2 - 15 were each given a voting slip and had to decide which guide dog that they would like the school to sponsor.

The winning dog is Margo, photograph below

Money raised in KS2 tuckshop will go to paying a monthly amount to the charity and we are looking forward to receiving 'pupdates' on how she is doing.
