You may recall that earlier on in the school year, we were visited by Dr Bob Key, an environmental scientist from Princeton University.
We were given the honour of being the only school in the UK to be involved with their latest research project based in the Indian Ocean.
Our float was named 'Lautan' which means ‘ocean’ in Indonesian and was launched from a research vessel on the 11th of January.
Lautan will be busy collecting data on sea temperatures, currents and ph levels from the depths of the Indian Ocean and beaming it back to the USA. Some of this data will also be used in school by Oakham pupils to support their learning about environmental topics.
We will keep everyone informed about Lautan's progress. To learn more about how our float, why not CLICK HERE and watch this short animation?
