PUPIL PREMIUM MEETING FEBRUARY 2018
Mrs Handley (Vice Chair/Parent Governor) and myself met with members of the Senior Leadership Team to discuss Pupil Premium. This is additional funding for all publicly funded schools in England, to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gap between them and their peers. Details of how this funding is spent can be found elsewhere on the website. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the main aspects and issues surrounding Oakham’s funding:
What evidence is there that the spending is effective and has narrowed the gap? How is the funding spent on higher attaining eligible pupils? Where has the funding had its biggest impact? Where has it not had an impact? How does the spending compare to previous years? In addition we wanted to explore the reasoning and thinking behind the use of the funding.
The information gained at the meeting has been passed to all Governor colleagues for discussion. However, there were two noticeable key points that emerged from the meeting that are worth noting here. The first is that the fact that the data shows that our eligible pupils have been outperforming non-disadvantaged pupils nationally. The second point is majority of PP spending is used on extra staffing; the direct effect of this being the impact that the extra staff enable PP learners make very good progress- the key factor in justifying how the funding is used. My thanks to the SLT for their valuable time and input.
